As a Pittsburgh newborn photographer, one of my favorite things is getting to capture families as they grow and celebrate new beginnings. This maternity session at Raccoon Creek State Park was extra special — not only because of the stunning beach location just an hour outside of Pittsburgh, but also because of the beautiful family I had the privilege of photographing.
A Beach Escape Just Outside Pittsburgh | Pittsburgh Newborn Photographer
Living in Pittsburgh, it’s easy to think we don’t have access to those soft, beachy vibes that make portraits feel timeless and unique. But just about an hour’s drive away, Raccoon Creek State Park offers sandy shores, sparkling water, and a peaceful atmosphere perfect for family and maternity sessions.
The convenience of being so close to the city yet feeling like you’ve traveled somewhere completely different is one of the biggest benefits of shooting here. It gives families the chance to slow down, breathe, and make memories together in a setting that feels both adventurous and serene.
Celebrating Mark’s Wild Three-Year-Old Spirit
This session was especially fun because we included soon-to-be big brother Mark, who had just turned three. Three is such a magical age — full of curiosity, energy, and imagination. Mark was the perfect example of that. He ran through the water, threw sand with joy, and completely embraced being his true wild-child self.
As a Pittsburgh newborn photographer, I always encourage parents to let their kids be kids during sessions. These natural, playful moments are what make portraits truly special. Capturing Mark’s carefree spirit alongside his mom’s glowing maternity portraits and his dad’s joyful laughter created images that this family will cherish forever.
A Family About to Become Four
For this mom and dad, these portraits also held a deeper meaning. When Mark was born, they didn’t have the chance to capture newborn portraits. Now, as they prepare to welcome their second baby, they wanted to take the time to document this chapter — a family of three on the edge of becoming four.
This maternity session became a way to not only celebrate their growing family but also honor the journey they’ve been on together. The images we created will serve as a reminder of how far they’ve come and the beautiful season of life they’re stepping into.
This maternity session was filled with laughter, play, and love — everything a family session should be. To this gorgeous mom and dad, thank you for letting me document this chapter as you prepare to welcome your newest little one. And to Mark, thank you for showing us all how wonderful it is to be three.
If you’re an expecting parent searching for a Pittsburgh newborn photographer, I’d love to help you capture your story — from maternity, to newborn, to all the milestones that follow.
